Teenage girl jumps in Jhelum in Sopore, searches on.

Sopore, Dec 12 (KNO): A 17-year-old girl jumped in the river Jhelum in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday even as search and rescue operation has been launched.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the girl, a student of 9th standard, jumped in the river near Jamia bridge.

He said following the incident, locals and police rushed to the spot to launch search and rescue operation.

He added the searches were going on when the reports last came in—(KNO)

*Inaugurates Digital Skill Development programme for wards of JKP Martyrs*

Jammu, Dec 10 (KNO): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the Digital Skill Development programme for the wards of J&K Police Martyrs to generate sustainable livelihood, Saturday at J&K Police Public School, Miran Sahib.

The Lt Governor said that the initiative under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by Indus Towers Limited is a tribute to bravehearts of Jammu Kashmir Police who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

The Lt Governor reiterated the Government’s commitment to take concrete measures for the families of the martyrs so that they may live a life of comfort and dignity. He said the welfare of the families of those, who served and protected the country’s integrity and sovereignty, will always be the top priority of the government.

I pay my humble tributes to those immortal heroes, who sacrificed their own lives in order to promote the lives of others. J&K Police, Army, Central Police Forces have made significant contribution in nation building. Let us all together take a pledge to discharge our duty towards the families of our martyrs and strengthen our resolve to work for their well-being, said the Lt Governor.

The Lt Governor urged society, enlightened citizens, business organizations and corporate to discharge their social duty and responsibility.

A grateful and thankful society must collectively support the Government to create a system, which provides ample opportunities to the dependents of the martyrs, he added.

The Lt Governor asked the Indus Towers Limited to ensure 100% placements of children who are enrolled in the skill development training.

Skill Development program must have an overarching impact on economic independence of the trainees. It should be followed by Job placement & self-employment. Hand-holding needs to be extended to the trainees after successful completion of the course, observed the Lt Governor.

Highlighting the significance of equipping the youth with Market-driven Skills, the Lt Governor stressed that the skill training should develop skill sets to meet the requirements of industries setting up businesses in J&K.

The Lt Governor further emphasized on extending necessary assistance for self-employment & entrepreneurial programmes, benefits of welfare schemes of Government by appointing dedicated nodal officer and CSR initiatives of Corporate to families of Martyrs through a structured way.

Family members of Police Martyrs should be connected with quality livelihood opportunities through schemes like NRLM, Umeed, Mission Youth, and other ongoing programs of the Government, he added.

The Lt Governor appreciated Principal and all associated with J&K Police Public School for their noble work of educating the Children of police personnel.

It is education that will transform India as a knowledge power house in the future, he observed.

The new initiative offers Digital Literacy Lessons to 50 J&K Police martyrs’ wards and support of connecting them with potential employers. It is aimed at making beneficiaries digitally literate by equipping them with IT & employability skills, it was informed.

Dilbag Singh, DGP appreciated the new beginning of J&K Police Public School in collaboration with Indus Towers. He also lauded the efforts of J&K Police Wives Association for taking the journey of J&K Police Public School to greater heights.

Manoj Kumar Singh, Chief of Regulatory & CSR, Indus Towers spoke on the key features of the Digital Skill Development training and exposing beneficiaries to career development skills.

We are grateful to the J&K Police department for providing the training facility and other basic amenities to seamlessly execute the programme, he added.

Later, the Lt Governor visited the Computer lab where the skill development training will be held and also interacted with the Children and their trainers.

Missing AMU student traced by police at Sopore railway station.

Sopore, Dec 10 : A class 10 student, who had gone missing from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was traced at railway station Sopore by police on Saturday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that Masroor Abbas Mir of Bohripora area of Sopore was traced by the police at railway station Sopore today.

He added they have informed his family members and right now he was with the police for questioning.

Notably, Masroor had gone missing from AMU on December 08, when he had left his hostel at 8 am for the school—(KNO)

Missing student’s family protest in Sopore, seek his whereabouts.

Appeal LG J&K to ensure their missing son’s safe return.

Sopore, Dec 10 (KNO): The family members and relatives of a student from Sopore, who went missing at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), on Saturday morning staged a massive protest, seeking whereabouts of their missing son.

Reports reaching to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said the family members and relatives of Masroor Abbas Mir, a 10th standard student at AMU, who went missing three days ago held a massive protest demonstration, seeking his whereabouts.

The protestors sought intervention of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant governor to ensure the safety and return of their son.

Masroor Abbas Mir of Bohripora had left his hostel at 8 am for the school on Thursday, but did not reach there.

“We tried to seek his whereabouts from his colleagues and school authorities but nobody is aware where he is,” a family member said.

The family has also lodged a missing report in the concerned police station—(KNO)

Driver dies after vehicle skids off road in Sopore village.

Sopore, Dec 10 (KNO): A driver died after his vehicle was skidded off the road in Cherihar village of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a three-wheeler skidded off the road in Cherihar Botingoo, leading to on spot death of its driver.

He identified the driver as Mudasir Ahmed Lone of Cherihar Botingoo.

He said after completion of medico-legal formalities, body will be handed over to the family, while a case has also been registered—(KNO)

Srinagar, Dec 09: Amid modern heating systems, demand for Kangri has increased in the Valley to protect from biting cold.

The traditional firepot is sold like hotcakes in Kashmir these days due to cold weather and markets filled with bulk stock, say vendors.

Abdul Majeed, a Kangri vendor outside Hazratbal shrine told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that he sold 20 kangris after Friday congregational prayers.

Sopore to experience better power supply this winter: ADC

Seeks public cooperation in curbing power pilferages.

Sopore, Dec 09: Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Sopore Parveez Sajad on Friday said that Sopore will witness better power supply this winter with minimum power cuts.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) he said that those using crude power equipment will not be spared and asked people to cooperate with the power utility for outages during technical issues or natural hazards.

Sajad said that they have set up teams to stop hooking and pilferage of power and action will follow against those found involved in power theft.

He appealed to people to clear their pending dues and avail the PDD amnesty scheme.

“There are a number of government departments which include that of security who have a huge amount of pending dues, it won’t be like they will be let go rather they too have to pay the pending bills”, the ADC added.

Furthermore, the ADC said that the damaged transformers will be repaired within 24 hours as they have sufficient stock available.

He urged people to be cooperative whenever there is some delay in restoring electricity in far off areas due to inclement weather—(KNO)

AMU student from Sopore goes missing, family appeals for help

Sopore, Dec 09 (KNO): A class 10th student at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) from Sopore is missing since December 8 and his family has sought help of authorities to trace their son.

Family members told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Masroor Abbas Mir son of Abbas Mir of Bohripora area of Sopore that their son left his hostel at 8 am for the school but did not reach there.

“We tried to seek his whereabouts from his colleagues and school authorities but nobody is aware where he is,” a family member said.

“Masroor had withdrawn cash of Rs 5000 from an ATM. His mail is logged in and from that his last location was traced from Aligrah”, a relative of Masroor said.

His family said that a missing report has been filed in the concerned police station.

They appealed people to contact on the numbers 8308876880 and 8491878812 if they have any information about their son.

Meanwhile, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti also tweeted, “Masroor Abbas Mir, a tenth grade student at the Aligarh Muslim University has been missing since yesterday morning. Please spread the word in helping his family trace his whereabouts.”—(KNO)

Pharmaceutical godown gutted, 2 firemen injured in Rajbagh blaze.

Two residential houses, hotel partially damaged.

Srinagar, Dec 09: A pharmaceutical godown was gutted while a residential house and hotel were partially damaged in a fire incident in Rajbagh area of Srinagar on Friday afternoon.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that two fire-fighters were also injured during fire-fighting operations.

He said both the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The official said fire broke out inside a house that was being used for commercial purposes to store pharmaceutical products.

He said in the incident the godown was gutted, while two nearby houses and a hotel were also damaged.

The official said fire has been put off while the reason of the fire was likely due to the explosion of LPG cylinders—(KNO)

It is hereby notified for the information of all such candidates whose Computer Based Written Test (CBT) examinations for the post of Sub Inspector Home Department advertised vide Notification no. 06 of 2021 which was scheduled on 09.12.2022 and was postponed vide Notice no. JKSSB-COE0EXAM (UT)/54/2022-03 (7057013) Dated: – 08.12.2022 shall now be held on 20.12.2022,” JKSSB said in a notification, a day after postponing the examination.

“However, Admit cards downloaded previously by the candidates shall not be valid for 20-12-2022 examination and the candidates need to download admit cards afresh for the CBT examination to be held on 20.12.2022,” the notification, a copy of which lies with GNS, reads, adding, “ The Fresh Level 1 and Level 2 admit cards shall remain available on JKSSB website w.e.f 13.12.2022 and 17.12.2022 respectively. Further the examinations scheduled from 11.12.2022 to 19.12.2022 shall be conducted as per the schedule issued already.”

The Board also said that the inconvenience caused to the candidates “is deeply regretted.” Both the notification, one issued on Thursday and another today came amid high court orders. (GNS)
