8,000 Students Participated Indian Army’s ‘Mera Desh Meri Pehchaan 2026’ in North Kashmir

Baramulla, 20 June 2026. The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, in collaboration with Lakshya Foundation, successfully concluded the six-day cultural and educational outreach initiative, “Mera Desh Meri Pehchaan 2026”, conducted across Uri, Sopore and Baramulla from 15 to 20 June 2026.

Conceived as a vibrant platform to foster national integration, cultural awareness and meaningful youth engagement, the initiative brought together the rich and diverse heritage of India under one roof. Through immersive galleries, traditional artefacts, documentary films and captivating cultural performances, participants were offered a unique opportunity to experience the customs, traditions and artistic expressions of Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Nagaland and West Bengal.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 8,000 students from Uri, Sopore and Baramulla. The programme culminated in a grand and memorable finale at Government Degree College (Boys), Baramulla, on 20 June 2026, celebrating the spirit of unity in diversity that forms the cornerstone of the Indian nation.

The Grand Finale was graced by the Chief Guest, alongside distinguished civil and military dignitaries, reflecting the widespread appreciation and support garnered by the initiative.

One of the most cherished highlights of the event was the enthralling cultural showcase presented by the students of St Joseph’s Public School, Baramulla, along with the talented team from Lakshya Foundation. Their performances, marked by artistic excellence, cultural vibrancy and patriotic fervour, captivated the audience and received resounding applause.

Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries commended the participants for their enthusiasm and underscored the significance of such initiatives in nurturing informed, confident and socially responsible youth. The programme served as a powerful reminder of India’s extraordinary cultural mosaic and the enduring values of mutual respect, harmony and national pride.

Through initiatives such as “Mera Desh Meri Pehchaan 2026”, the Indian Army continues to strengthen its enduring bond with the youth, inspire aspirations, and promote peace, harmony and national integration across the region. The overwhelming response to the event stands as a testament to the collective commitment towards building a stronger, more united and progressive India.

June 19:In preparation for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026, IGP Kashmir Shri V.K Birdi-IPS briefed Zonal Officers and Sector Officers to review coordination, and operational preparedness along the Yatra route.

The briefing was attended by DIG CKR Srinagar, DIG SKR Anantnag, DIG Armed Kashmir, SSP PCR Kashmir, SO to IGP Kashmir, all ZOs and SOs deputed for SANJY-2026 and other senior officers.

During the briefing, IGP Kashmir emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and public service to ensure the safe, smooth, and successful conduct of the Yatra. Officers were directed to remain fully prepared to meet all security and logistical challenges and to ensure effective implementation of the established security grid.

Shri V.K Birdi instructed Zonal Officers to conduct regular briefings of Sector Officers and jawans under their command so that all personnel remain fully aware of their duties, responsibilities, and the prevailing security scenario. He stressed the need for continuous supervision and effective communication at all levels of deployment. Officers were further directed to maintain close coordination with sister agencies operating within their respective areas of responsibility to ensure seamless information sharing, joint response mechanisms, and synchronized operational efforts throughout the Yatra period.

Highlighting the importance of public service, IGP Kashmir called upon all officers and personnel to extend every possible assistance to the devotees, ensuring their safety, convenience, and well-being. He reiterated that people-friendly approach should be maintained while discharging duties. IGP Kashmir also underscored the importance of strict discipline, professionalism, and adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He urged all ranks to remain alert, maintain a high level of operational readiness, and uphold the reputation of the force through exemplary conduct.

The meeting concluded with a detailed review of coordination mechanisms, and contingency measures to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.

Sopore, June 17: The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Lakshya Foundation, successfully organised Mera Desh Meri Pehchaan (MDMP)-2026 at Mohit Sharma Army Goodwill School, Sopore. The event witnessed an overwhelming response, bringing together approximately 1,800 students from 29 government and private schools, along with teachers, media personnel, social media influencers, and members of civil society.

Organised under the theme “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”, the programme served as a vibrant platform to promote national integration, cultural awareness, and youth engagement. The venue was transformed into a dynamic cultural hub, showcasing the rich heritage, traditions, art, cuisine, music, and folklore of diverse Indian states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Nagaland, and West Bengal.
Students enthusiastically participated in a variety of activities, including immersive state galleries, documentary screenings, cultural exhibitions, and high-energy folk dance performances. The event provided young minds with a unique opportunity to explore and appreciate India’s cultural diversity while fostering a deeper sense of national pride and unity.

The presence of media representatives and local influencers further amplified the reach and impact of the initiative, highlighting the collective commitment towards empowering youth and strengthening social cohesion.

Through meaningful engagement and cultural exchange, Mera Desh Meri Pehchaan (MDMP)-2026 successfully advanced its vision of nurturing a disciplined, dedicated, and nationally conscious generation. GANDERBAL, NOVEMBER 19: District Administration Ganderbal today led a massive awareness rally under the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0, bringing together students, health workers, and officials to voice a collective stand against the dangers of tobacco.

Organised by the Education and Health Departments Ganderbal, the rally set off from the Mini Secretariat and was flagged off by Additional District Development Commissioner(ADDC), Manzoor Ahmed Bhat, along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal from Mini-Secretariat Ganderbal.

Scores of students from various educational institutions, ASHA workers, and departmental officials walked shoulder-to-shoulder, raising slogans like “Say No to Tobacco, Yes to Health” as they moved through Duderhama Market and Beehama Market before concluding at the SSP Office Ganderbal. The energy and determination of the students gave the rally a powerful emotional resonance.

Earlier, ADDC Ganderbal administered the Anti-Tobacco Pledge, urging participants to commit themselves to healthier choices and a tobacco-free future.

Addressing the gathering, SSP Ganderbal described tobacco consumption as a silent but devastating threat that harms not only the user but everyone around them. He encouraged students to become vigilant anti-tobacco volunteers and to report any instance of smoking within 100 yards of educational institutions or in public spaces. He reassured them that strict action would be taken against violators to ensure safer surroundings for all.

ADDC emphasised the lifelong consequences of tobacco addiction and urged students to never succumb to its trap. He called upon the youth to become ambassadors of health and awareness in their homes, schools, and communities, spreading the message of a tobacco-free life.

The event witnessed the presence of the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, besides officers and officials from various departments who pledged their continued support to building a healthier Ganderbal.

CM underscores entrepreneurship as the driving force of J&K’s future growth

KULGAM, NOVEMBER 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated a two-day J&K Business & Trade Fair organised by the District Administration Kulgam in collaboration with Mission YUVA.

The fair aims to promote entrepreneurship and provide a platform for business innovation and growth for businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.

After formally inaugurating the event, the Chief Minister inspected various stalls established by entrepreneurs and business establishments. He interacted with the participants and lauded their contribution towards promoting business enterprises and generating livelihood opportunities in the district.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that while the government is working to create jobs, it is not possible to provide government employment to everyone. Therefore, it is essential to create self-employment avenues, and schemes like Mission YUVA have been devised to fulfil this objective. He emphasised that banks must ensure smooth disbursement of cases under various entrepreneurship schemes and assured budding entrepreneurs of all possible support from the government. He added that the aim of Mission Youth is to empower young people to explore innovative ideas, build sustainable businesses, contribute to the region’s economic progress, and evolve into job creators.

The Chief Minister noted that trade fairs play a crucial role in strengthening the economy by offering emerging entrepreneurs opportunities to showcase their talent, connect with wider markets, and expand their business networks.

During the event, the Chief Minister visited entrepreneur stalls, business units, and departmental exhibits and interacted with the participants. He also distributed sanction letters to beneficiaries under Mission YUVA scheme.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Education, Health & Medical Education and Social Welfare, Sakeena Itoo, said that youth are actively participating in entrepreneurship schemes. She informed that many beneficiaries have already been identified and numerous cases approved. She stressed the need for smooth processing of cases to maximise the benefits and urged youth to avail themselves of these opportunities.

MLA Kulgam, M.Y. Tarigami, encouraged young people to seize every opportunity to build prosperous and progressive lives.

The programme was attended by Minister for Education, Sakeena Itoo; DDC Chairperson Kulgam, Mohammad Afzal Parrey; MLA Kulgam, M.Y. Tarigami; MLA Devsar, Peerzada Feroz Ahmad; Secretary Labour and Employment, Kumar Rajiv Ranjan; Secretary in Information Department, Muneer Ul Islam; DDC Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan; Mission Director, Mission YUVA, Shadab Aalam; other senior officers; representatives of business organisations; entrepreneurs; and aspiring entrepreneurs.

Capacity-building completion certificates were distributed, Mission YUVA sanction letters were handed over to beneficiaries, and MoUs were exchanged between Mission YUVA and ONDC.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Athar Aamir Khan presented the welcome address and highlighted the aim of organising the two-day fair. Mission Director Shahzad Aalam presented the vote of thanks and highlighted achievements under Mission YUVA.

Assures swift restoration of NH, relief for the affected families

Calls for coordination between departments for timely rehabilitation

RAMBAN, APRIL 22: In a significant outreach to the people affected by the recent cloudburst in Ramban district, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today visited the affected areas for the second consecutive day to personally assess the situation and oversee ongoing relief and restoration efforts.

The Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of the damage caused at Dharmkund and along National Highway-44, accompanied by colleagues and concerned officers. He later visited various severely impacted locations, including Seri, Boli Bazar, Main Bazar Ramban, and the area surrounding Government Higher Secondary School Ramban.

During his visit, the Chief Minister interacted with affected families and assured them of all possible support. He emphasized that the immediate restoration of NH-44 is the topmost priority and directed the district administration Ramban to expedite the damage assessment process, covering death cases, structural losses, property damage, agricultural losses and livestock casualties.

The Chief Minister assured that relief compensation will be provided by the J&K Government to all those affected by the cloudburst. He further stated that the J&K Government is committed to supporting the victims during this difficult time and will seek assistance from the Central Government to ensure timely and adequate relief measures are extended to the affected families.

He instructed the administration and NHAI to intensify relief and restoration works and assured adequate financial assistance for the same. He further directed for clearing of link roads and removal of debris from residential areas, restoration of power supply and deployment of water tankers to ensure drinking water in affected localities. He also called for the enhancement of community kitchens (langars) to support displaced families and the submission of fund requisition to the Finance Department for immediate financial support from the government.

The Chief Minister also appreciated the prompt response and real-time action by the district administration and Police, which helped save many precious lives.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Advisor to CM Nasir Aslam Wani, DDC Chairperson Dr. Shamshad Shan, MLA Banihal Sajad Shaheen, MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Raju, Deputy Commissioner Ramban Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, SSP Ramban Kulbir Singh and other senior officers.

Later, a review meeting was also held at Ramban, where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took stock of the ongoing rescue, relief, and restoration efforts being carried out by the district administration and stakeholder departments. Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani suggested measures for the timely restoration of essential services and urged early insurance claims processing to avoid delays in compensation.

The Chief Minister also directed authorities to strictly regulate construction near water channels and nallahs to prevent obstruction to natural water flow. The DDC Chairperson, MLAs, and other officials highlighted various pressing issues that require immediate attention.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary briefed the Chief Minister about the tragic incident and measures undertaken so far for rescue, relief and restoration across the district.

JAMMU, APRIL 22:  A Public Hearing was organized by JKPCC today here at village Bhalwal near Ring Road for “Environment Clearance of Integrated Solid Waste Management Project” in terms of Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification 2006 of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.

A panel of officers was present for eliciting view-points and suggestions of the locals and other stakeholders for installation of Integrated Solid Waste Management Plant.

Chairman District Development Council Bharat Bhushan; MLA Jammu North Sham Lal Sharma and Commissioner JMC Devansh Yadav were also present at the Public Hearing. 

The panel of Public Hearing comprised Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu (Chairman) Rakesh Kumar; Divisional Officer PCC Samba North (Member) Anil Sharma, representing Regional Director JKPCC Jammu and Divisional Officer PCC Jammu North (Convenor) Deepak Abrol.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar presided over the public hearing on behalf of District Magistrate Jammu and conducted under his supervision as per the provisions of EIA.

Commissioner JMC Devansh Yadav apprised the general public that the purpose of conducting public hearing was to hear the views of the people of surrounding areas regarding the upcoming Integrated Solid Waste Management Plant.

Chairman District Development Council Bharat Bhushan; MLA Jammu North Sham Lal Sharma and prominent citizens of the area presented their viewpoints and suggestions before the panel.

FI, JKPCC Dimple Sharma concluded the proceedings. She informed   that the proceedings shall be forwarded to the Ministry of Environment and Forests, where the same shall be appraised by Expert Committee framed by the Ministry of Environment and Forests GoI, and   uploaded on the website of the JKPCC for information of all the stakeholders and participants in general.

BHADERWAH, APRIL 22: A special vaccination camp was organized at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bhaderwah for the Haj pilgrims registered for the 2025 pilgrimage. The event was held in the presence of DDC Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal, who emphasized the importance of health preparedness and preventive care for the sacred journey. A total of 17 pilgrims were administered essential vaccinations and underwent medical check-ups to ensure their fitness and well-being before departing for Haj.

Meanwhile, the camp also focused on preventive healthcare for girls. Under the Prime Minister’s “Suraksha” initiative, HPV vaccines were administered to girl children for protection against cervical cancer. This crucial step in women’s health was also supervised by the DDC Chairman, who appreciated the medical team’s commitment to community welfare.

The health drive was conducted under the supervision of a dedicated medical team, with full adherence to health protocols. Local Tehsildar   BMO   and other doctors were present to support the initiative, reflecting a strong collaboration between civil and health departments.

The comprehensive vaccination effort was widely appreciated by the local community and the beneficiaries.

KISHTWAR, APRIL 22: In a considerate gesture to ease the hardship of grieving families, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajesh Kumar Shavan today disbursed Rs 15 lakh as compensation among Next of the Kin (NoK).

A total of Rs. 1 lakh each was distributed among the legal heirs of fifteen deceased victims of road accidents under the J&K Road Accident Victim Fund.

The event, held in the Office Chamber of the DC Kishtwar, witnessed the presence of ADC Pawan Kotwal, ARTO Tasleem Wani and other concerned officials.

The government’s initiative aims to extend support to those affected by such tragic incidents and underscores its ongoing commitment to assist bereaved families.

This distribution marks an essential step in providing financial assistance and acknowledging the distress faced by the families of road accident victims.

RAJOURI, APRIL 22: On the occasion of the 17th Civil Services Day held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma presented the progress made under the Aspirational Block Programme in Rajouri district.

The presentation was made in the esteemed presence of Rao Inderjit Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Ministry of Planning, and Minister of State for Corporate Affairs V. Srinivas, Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG); and senior officers from across the country.

During the event, the DC Rajouri highlighted the transformational impact of the Aspirational Block Programme in the district, with a focus on key sectors such as health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, basic infrastructure and skill development. He presented success stories, innovations, and convergence efforts that have led to significant improvement in services delivery and quality of life in the Khawas block.

The efforts of District Administration Rajouri under the leadership of DC Abhishek Sharma were lauded for adopting data-driven governance, community participation, and inter-departmental coordination to bridge development gaps in remote areas.

The 17th Civil Services Day served as a platform for knowledge sharing and best practices among civil servants and recognized exemplary contributions in public administration aimed at improving citizen-centric services.
