Three soldiers were killed while five others sustained injuries after a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident in Shopian, officials said on Thursday.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a tata sumo carrying soldiers to Badigam encounter site skidded off the road in Kanipora area of Shopian.
“In the incident, eight troopers received injuries, who were shifted to district hospital Shopian for treatment, however, three of them succumbed while others are undergoing treatment,” officials said.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Shopian, Dr. Arshid Ahmad Tak, however, told KNO that the exact figure of injured persons brought to the hospital is not known yet, adding that the details are being collected.
He also said two Army men were also brought dead to the hospital.
Meanwhile, police in a tweet said that four Army men were injured in the accident and termed the reports about the stone pelting as baseless.
“Actually a tata Sumo carrying soldiers from44 RR Chowgam Camp was on its way to encounter site at Badigam.The driver lost control over the vehicle due to some technical fault & it skidded off the road.04 soldiers were injured & 02among them succumbed,” police tweeted.
“It has been reported thatsome unconfirmed information has been circulated on social media,relating to stone pelting/injuries to some army jawans at Kanipora Spn.It is clarified that info.shared in social media isnot based on facts,” police tweeted.
Moreover, Army in a statement said that three Army personnel lost their lives and five soldiers were injured after the vehicle they were traveling in overturned near Kanipora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, enroute to an encounter site at Badigam, Shopian.
“Owing to the wet road conditions, the driver seemingly lost control over the vehicle and it skidded off the road. The eight injured soldiers were shifted to District Hospital Shopian, where two among them were declared dead. One soldier had received minor injuries and was discharged from District Hospital. The five other injured soldiers were evacuated to 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar, where in the third soldier also succumbed to his injuries. Four soldiers are presently at the 92 Base Hospital and are being treated,” the statement said.
It has already been clarified by the JKP that information shared on social media, that the accident was caused by stone pelting incident in the area is false. Rumours may be avoided and peace be maintained,” the statement added—(KNO)
4 militants killed in Shopian were involved in 6 cases: IGP Kashmir
Four Lashker-e-Toiba militants killed at Badigam area in Shopian district were involved in six cases including attacks on outside labourers while a 12 bore rifle snatched from a JK Bank guard in Muran Pulwama was recovered from them, Inpector General of Police Vijay Kumar said on Thursday.
At He said that the militant were active in Shopian and adjacent areas of Pulwama. “They were involved in 6 cases including attacks on outside labourers,” he said, adding, “Hunt for their associates like Aijaz of Pulwama is on and they will be neutralised soon.”
The top police officer told GNS that the 12 bore rifle snatched from bank guard at Muran Pulwama earlier this year was recovered from the encounter site. (GNS)
Meet Ruqaya Jamshed: A teacher who writes to educate people about Sufism, Iqbaliyat & Mysticism*
Born and brought up district Srinagar, Ruqaya Jamshed earned MPhil in Geography and Regional Development in 1996 from University of Kashmir.
Born to educated parents, Ruqaya says that she followed the footsteps of her father who inspired her a lot with his impressive expertise in Sufism and Persian literature.
Ruqaya did her schooling from Srinagar and started to develop interest in writing from her early school days. “Two of my poems got published in a school magazine when I was all new to writing” She says.
Ruqaya said that interest makes anything possible, the constant efforts ammend us continuously and same did work well for her in her journey to compile a research work on Sufism.
Ruqaya has written a book ‘Soch Kral On The Point Of Singularity’ published by Wular Publishing House, addressing the audience that the basic understanding of religion treads a way for one to unroll Sufism through a lens of modern science.
Ruqaya mentions that as a working lady, compiling a research work was more than an cakewalk for her.
“Being a working lady it was hard to find time for writing but my family was very supportive” She said.
BARAMULLA POLICE HELD A POLICE COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP GROUP (PCPG) MEETING AT POLICE STATION PATTAN TO STRENGTHEN POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS
The meeting was chaired by SDPO Pattan, Shri Mohammad Nawaz-JKPS. A warm welcome was given to SDPO Pattan by the participants. The meeting was also attended by Chairman Municipal Council Pattan, President’s of Traders Federation Pattan, councilor’s of Municipal Council Pattan, DySP Ops Pattan, SHO PS Pattan, DO Palhallan, DO Wussan and staff of Police Station Pattan. Public from surrounding area including respectable citizens, also attended the public meeting.
The main motive behind conducting the PCPG meetings was to provide awareness of cyber crime and drug de-addiction among the participants. SDPO Pattan briefed about cyber threats/ activities viz Identity theft, credit card fraud, data stealing, cyber stalking, humiliation of girls, spreading pornography, etc among the participants. SDPO Pattan sought the cooperation of people in eradicating the social evils prevailing in the society particularly menace of drugs. He highlighted the role of parents and said that parents have a greater responsibility in social development of a child as they act as the first teachers and guides of their wards.
The participants were stressed to co-operate with Police and administration in maintaining L&O/ drug menace in the area and in identifying anti-national/ social elements who always try to disrupt the peaceful environment.
General public of Pattan thanked SDPO Pattan for visiting and Police Sub Division Pattan for conducting such a meeting and building a bridge of trust between police and public. Public of village requested for regular meetings in future as well.

In a statement issued here, Bali has appealed to the administration to dole out compensation in favour of the fire victims of the area whose shops were completely gutted down in this fire thus causing them huge loss which is a matter of serious concern.
Bali also demanded that the administration must expeditiously initiate construction and repair work of those shops that were badly damaged in this fire.
Srinagar : Meet 23 years old Qurat shah who is now author of two books and a co-author of several anthologies.
Qurat shah is from HMT area of central kashmirs srinagar district. Apart from her writing career, she is persuing bachelor’s degree in law from university of Kashmir. Her book namely ‘SINCE 90’s’ got published lately.
While interacting with Qurat shah, she said that it’s her second book which has been published. She has written her first book last year with the name of ‘Garden of pain’.
‘I love writing as it’s righly said that “paper has more patience than people”, she said.
” I believe that words are the most powerful weapon that one can have”, she added.
She doesn’t write for fame or publicity but she writes for contentment of her soul.
The book since 90’s is a collection of 6 fictional short stories based on real experiences, that encapsulate the agony, and angst faced by the Kashmiri people. This book will help you to get an idea of havoc going on in Kashmir for seven decades.
“I’ve tried to keep the book short and language friendly so that not only the book readers but anybody can give it a read, ” she said.
