Lieutenant Governor J&K, Shri Manoj Sinha today addressed the 27th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Nephrology.

The Lt Governor commended the Indian Society of Nephrology for offering a common platform to the experts to enable more people-centric, safe and effective treatment, and strengthening the future exploration on recent advances.

AatmaNirbhar Bharat is making impressive strides in harnessing intellectual property, reforms in Pharma industry to compete with the best in the world and expanding cooperation with other developing countries. The whole world is looking at India as a self-reliant nation on the move, as a nation poised to become the superpower, added the Lt Governor.

Hon’ble Prime Minister has toughened the competitive muscle of the health sector in J&K and also improved the delivery to poor patients with chronic kidney disease, observed the Lt Governor.

Today, all our 20 district hospitals are equipped with state-of-the-art dialysis facilities to ensure patients don’t face any hurdle in receiving quality treatment, he added.

Healthcare landscape of Jammu & Kashmir has been transformed. The benefits of health reforms have become accessible and inclusive. We are strengthening rural public health infrastructure and introducing innovative medical practices to provide quality health care to the doorsteps of the common man, the Lt Governor said.

Jammu & Kashmir has now moved forward to the category of “Front-runners” in NITI Aayog’s SDG index; neonatal mortality rate in the UT reached single digit, Universal Health Coverage has been extended across the UT. We have not only checked the alarming decline in health infrastructure and funding in up-gradation, but also steadily increased it in the last couple of years.

The Lt Governor advised the Nephrologists, dialysis experts and transplant physicians to seek innovative ways, research and development to provide affordable and inclusive solutions.

We also need to improve care coordination and patient education for those living with kidney disease in rural areas through enhanced coordination with the government, added the Lt Governor.

In order to develop future technologies such as artificial kidneys and ensure a flexible care model, we have to nurture nephrology segment, attract and retain brightest experts in the field and promote organ donation and safe transplantation campaign within the country, the Lt Governor further added.

In the last two years, there have been many lessons from global pandemic for policymakers, doctors and researchers. With a large reservoir of medical potential that is second to none in competence, India is recuperating and every segment of healthcare has shown remarkable resilience. We are proud of our scientists, experts and doctors who are transforming India into a healthcare giant, the Lt Governor said.

The Lt Governor also called for reversing the trend of migration of our youth to other countries for medical education by encouraging private players and other stakeholders to provide affordable education, while state governments should play the role of a facilitator.

The Lt Governor further advised the Indian Society of Nephrology to annually review the progress made in critical health care segments like nephrology and suggest correctives for the government to prevent, detect, and slow the progression of kidney disease and meet the growing needs for experts, trained workforce. With our collaborative efforts, the pursuit of excellence can be achieved, added the Lt Governor.

In order to formulate ‘Action Plan for Road Safety measures in Anantnag to reduce the incidence of road mishaps, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr. Piyush Singla today chaired a meeting of District Road Safety Committee(DRSC) here under the theme “Sadak Durakhsha Jeevan Raksha”.

The participants in the meeting held threadbare deliberations on various issues with regard to management of Traffic including identification of black spots, improvement of lighting on vital roads, Traffic Management System, availability of Crash Rescue Vehicles and Critical Care Ambulances.

The DC stressed upon all the officers to be proactive in formulating a comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan on priority basis.

While briefing the chair the ARTO said that India lost 1.3 Million people in the last decade with 5.3 million persons left disabled due to road accidents. India Having only 1% of the world’s vehicles accounts for 10% of global road crashes and to minimise the accidental death rate IRTE has devised the 4-E policy of education, enforcement, engineering and emergency. 21 persons were killed and 340 injured in Anantnag in 2021 added the ARTO.

Speaking on the occasion the DC stressed on the concerned officers to take all required measures like driving behavioural changes among drivers , awareness camps in colleges, schools , appreciation incentives for good drivers and social discouragement for bad drivers.

He directed the PWD to improve road markings and signage to eliminate high risk stretches, black spots, improvement of junctions on all cross-roads, and improve road lighting near habitations.

Further, the DC instructed to remove road side objects that hinder smooth traffic movement. He also directed to keep the provision of parking areas in crowded places and relocation of the roadside vendors to improve traffic movements and facilitate movement of pedestrians.

The DC directed the Traffic authorities to expedite the process of purchasing Crash rescue vehicles, besides submit a detailed requirement regarding barricades and signages.

Pointing to a few critical points prone to accidents like Sether, Donipowa, Thujwara etc. DC directed the concerned officers to conduct the audit of the accidents to find out the cause of accidents.

It is pertinent to mention here that SSP Anantnag put forth several suggessions and remedies for solving the issue of traffic jams, accidents etc.

The meeting was attended by SSP Anantnag, CEO,CMO ARTO, traffic police and other concerned officers.

Bandipora, March 05 : Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, on Saturday visited several Education and Skill Development Institutions in the district and reviewed the academic activities besides assessing development works being executed there.

Deputy Commissioner, Dr Owais Ahmad, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Zahid, Additional District Development Commissioner, Ali Afsar Khan, Joint Director Planning, Imtiyaz Ahmad, district officers and PRI members accompanied the Principal Secretary.

Dr Samoon visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra Patushai, Bandipora and interacted with the scientists and the staff there and enquired about the research activities being carried in the centre in different fields of agriculture.

He was informed that KVK trains the farmers of the district in modern agriculture techniques along with practical training so that the farmers adopt these innovations in their farms to ensure enhanced produce. He was informed that KVK Bandipora is producing Shalimar Rice 4 seed for the farmers which produce 5 quintal per kanal.

Principal Secretary asked the concerned officers to diversify the programmes for successful youth engagement in different trades saying that KVK is an asset which can be used for youth engagement programmes besides providing scientific hand holding to farmers. He took stock of infrastructural issues in the Centre including fencing and macadamization of approach road.

Dr Samoon also visited Government Degree College Bandipora and inaugurated a Browsing centre for students. He inspected ongoing fencing work and visited different departments of the college besides interacting with the students.

He visited Government Polytechnic College Bandipora and reviewed the academic activities of the institution besides taking stock of repair and renovation works. He inspected the ongoing construction works in the newly established complex and interacted with staff and students to get feedback about teaching learning process and infrastructural issues including hostel, workshop and transport facilities.

Later, Principal Secretary visited Mini Secretariat Bandipora and handed over keys of 13 vehicles to beneficiaries of Mumkin scheme. He also kick started plantation drive organized by Social Forestry Department besides distributing agricultural tools among the farmers under various schemes including Floor Grinding Machine for halqa Panchayat Chittaybandi.

Dr Samoon also handed over 7 scooties to specially abled persons provided by Department of Social Welfare under various welfare schemes. He distributed kits of artificial insemination and dosing among tribal youth who participated in 14 day capacity building programme organized by the Department of Sheep Husbandry.

During his visit to Girls Higher Secondary School Bandipora, Dr Samoon felicitated Padma Shree awardee Faisal Ali and meritorious students of recently declared board exams. He distributed cash prizes and mementos among meritorious children. A cultural programme was also held at GHSS.

Principal Secretary, during his visit to District Hospital Bandipora, took stock of healthcare facilities being provided to the people there and interacted with the patients to take feedback about the facilities being provided to them.

Later, Principal Secretary chaired a meeting of officers to review the developmental activities being executed in the district.

Dr Samoon reviewed proposals under the District Capex Plan, 2021-22 including physical status of projects targeted for completion in the current fiscal.

Deputy Commissioner informed about the status of various ongoing development projects.

He revealed that 1704 works including 1244 under CSS, 412 under Area Development, 46 under Regular and 2 under NABARD have, so far, been completed in the district under various schemes including MGNREGA works, PMAY (G) works, DDC Grants, BDC works and PMGSY works. Besides, Rs 529 crore have been earmarked for the financial year 2021-22 with major thrust on Jal Jeevan Mission (51%), PMGSY (21%), Rural development Department (8%), Education & Health (8%) etc.

Dr Samoon sought details from the heads of departments including Rural Development Department, Education, Health, JKPDCL, R&B, Jal Shakti, Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Skill Development about the progress on ongoing projects of their respective departments.

Later, Dr Samoon interacted with public delegations including PRI members who apprised him of various issues seeking his intervention towards speedy resolution of their grievances.

Jammu and Kashmir reported 47 fresh Covid-19 cases even as there was no death due to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Saturday.

They said 30 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu Division and 17 Kashmir Division, taking the overall tally to 453214.

Giving district wise details, the officials told GNS, Srinagar reported 6 cases, Baramulla 3, Budgam 3, Pulwama 0, Kupwara 3, Anantnag 0, Bandipora 2, Ganderbal 0, Kulgam 0, Shopian 0, Jammu 18, Udhampur 2, Rajouri 1, Doda 2, Kathua 1, Samba 0, Kishtwar 4, Poonch 0, Ramban 2 and Reasi 0.

There was no death reported in the last 24 hours, they said. So far 4749 persons have succumbed to the virus—2326 in Jammu and 2423 in Kashmir.

Besides, they said, 79 Covid-19 patients—55 from Jammu and 24 from Valley— recovered during the time. So far 448085 people have recovered, leaving the active case tally at 380— 193 in Jammu and 187 in Kashmir.

They said there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today. So far 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in J&K, the officials said. They also informed that 15629 doses of covid-19 vaccine were administered during the time in J&K. (GNS)

SSP Budgam while receiving her praised her achievements stated that sports plays an important role in the personality development. He also stated that she has become a role model for many young budding talented children of J&K and wished her good luck for all her future endeavours.

It’s pertinent to mention that Sadia Tariq has won Gold Medal in the recently held All Star Wushu Championship-2022 in Moscow Russia. He has also won a gold medal two times before in the junior national wushu championship.

The screening committee of the J&K Sports council led by Mrs Nuzhat Ara , Divisional Sports officer, Kashmir, Mrs Nusrat Gazala, Central Sports officer, & Mr. Maqsood Khan, member sports screening committee today cleared the J&K teams for the said championship , The J&K UT teams was undergone through the 21 days Coaching camp at Indoor hall, Polo ground Srinagar under the supervision of Mohammad Iqbal, Coach , J&K Sports Council. Gulmarg received fresh snowfall while rains lashed some parts of Jammu and Kashmir including this summer capital, officials said on Thursday. With overnight cloud cover, the night temperature hovered around above freezing point in all observatory places of the meteorological department barring the Gulmarg.

A meteorological department official told GNS that Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, had traces of rainfall since overnight while as the summer capital of J&K recorded a low of 4.6°C against last night’s 4.8°C.

Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, had 0.4mm of rain and recorded a low of 0.9°C against 2.0°C on the previous night, he said.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, had a low of 0.9°C against 1.4°C on the previous night, the official said.

Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 0.5°C against minus 0.8°C last night, he said.

Gulmarg received 7 cms of fresh snowfall and recorded a low of minus 4.4°C against minus 5.4°C on the previous night, he said.

The temperature was 0.1°C below normal for this time of the year in the famous resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 4.6°C against 3.5°C on the previous night, the official said.

Jammu recorded a low of 14.0°C against 11.1°C on the previous night, the official said. The temperature was 1.7°C above normal for the J&K’s winter capital during this time of the year, he said.

Banihal recorded a low of 4.6°C, Batote with 0.8mm of rainfall had a minimum of 4.9°C while Bhaderwah recorded a low of 4.6°C, the official said.

Ladakh’s Leh recorded a minimum of minus 4.6°C against last night minus 6.4°C on the previous night while automatic Kargil station at recorded a low of minus 9.0°C. Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, recorded a low of minus 11.7°C against 17.8°C on the previous night, officials said.
There is a forecast for “isolated to scattered light rain/snow/TS”. The official however said there’s no forecast of any “significant weather” till March 5.(GNS)

Jammu, March 02 : Olympian Arif Muhammad and Wushu Champion, Sadia Tariq have received a rousing welcome while reaching at Jammu the J&K Sports Council and Wushu Association of J&K.

Secretary J&K Sports Council, Ms Nuzhat Gul felicitated Sadia Tariq for her outstanding feat at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship held in Moscow last month.

Sadia defeated her Russian counterpart in the finals to claim the Gold medal for her country.

Secretary Sports council conveyed her best wishes to both the athletes on behalf of Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan and Principal Secretary Youth Services & Sports, Alok Kumar and assured all possible support for the Youth Asian Games scheduled to be held in China later this year.

She said, “all possible help for the preparation of coveted event shall be extended so that Sadia is able to give her best in the competition”.

While congratulating Olympian Arif Muhammad, she also expressed her gratitude to the athlete for adding another feather in cap of J&K by being the lone qualifier for the Games from the country and also being the first ever flag bearer for the Games.

Sadia Tariq will be enrolled in NCOE Bhopal for the preparation of the Youth Asian Games 2022 and the selection process will commence on14th and 15th March by the TIDC members of the Sports Authority of India.

Dronacharya Awardee and National Chief Coach, Kuldeep Handoo and President Wushu Association J&K, Vijay Saraf also praised the performance of Sadia.

President Hockey J&K, Divisional Sports Officer (J), Manager MA Stadium, Manager Indoor and coaches and other officials from J&K Sports Council were also present on the occasion.
