Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh led senior officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police, family members, relatives and friends in paying floral tribute to the slain SgCt Rohit Chib and attended his funeral at Jogi Gate cremation ground here on Thursday.

Senior officers ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh, SSP PCR Jammu Dr Haseeb Mughal, SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli, SSP Mubassir Latifi, SSP Kulbir Singh, other Police and civil administration officers and large number of people paid their tributes to Rohit Chib, who was killed yesterday in an encounter at Pariwan area of District Kulgam while evacuating the civilians from the encounter site to safer places.

Rohit Chib had joined the J&K Police as constable in the year 2011 and was promoted to the next rank for his dedication and devotion towards duties in the year 2017.

According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the DGP and ADGP on behalf of JK Police conveyed heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family of the slain.

Speaking to the media persons, DGP said that J&K Police along with other security forces are fighting against militants and their supporters with firm determination.

He said that a good number of militants were killed in the beginning of 2022 and people have sighed relief after their killings.

He said that in the coming days, more stringent actions will be taken against militants and with the support of people more and a peaceful environment will prevail soon.

The DGP said that it has become a trend of Pakistani based agencies and militants to attack on forces and disturb peace and order while using civilians as shields. “Efforts and precautions are being taken to save the lives of civilians during encounters,” he added.

He said that efforts are being made to infiltrate militants here. He said that forces on the border and hinterland are protecting with utmost dedication and every effort of infiltration will be thwarted—(KNO)

Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday recorded 1966 fresh Covid cases, taking the number of infected persons to 350167 while five persons died due to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said.

Of the new cases, 889 were from the Jammu division and 1077 from the Kashmir division of the union territory, Officials said.
Jammu district recorded the highest number of cases at 434, followed by 416 in Srinagar district.
There are 7932 active cases in the union territory while the number of recoveries so far has been 337683, officials said.
 Moreover, 271 Covid-19 patients recovered during the time, 153 from Jammu Division and 118 from Kashmir, they said.

Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) organised a mask distribution and Covid mitigation awareness campaign today at Raj Bagh and Residency Road area here.

SP South Lakshay Sharma, SHO Rajbagh Ishaq, SHO Kothibagh Mudasir and President CCIK Tariq Rashid Ghani along with many traders, officials from police and the general public participated in the drive. The CCIK visited many shops and encouraged the shopkeepers to follow all SOPs while dealing with customers.

“The shopkeepers and traders were told not to entertain the shoppers who are not wearing the masks. The shopkeepers were also informed to keep masks at their shops for free distribution among the customers. Besides masks were also distributed among transporters, drivers and the general public. They were encouraged to follow all SOPs to curb the spread of Coronavirus. Both traders and the general public participated in the drive and said such awareness campaigns would help curb the disease and avoid any lockdown,” CCIK said in a statement.

“It is in the larger interest of the local community and also of traders to follow SOPs to avoid any possibility of lockdown to curb the virus,” the CCIK president said.

In a setback to Apni Party, vice—Chairperson of Srinagar district development council (DDC), Bilal Ahmad Bhat along with four other elected councilors resigned from the party on Thursday.

Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer(KNO) Bilal Ahmad Bhat, who was elected as vice—chairperson of DDC Srinagar last year, said that he along with other four councilors have resigned from the party today.

“We have won as independent candidates in DDC polls and later joined Apni Party. Now we have decided that we will continue as independent councilors,” he said.

He said DDC members Ali Muhammad, Muhammad Shaban, Shamima and Muhammad Yasin have also resigned the party—(KNO)

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar on Thursday visited Nillow camp of police’s SOG in Kulgam district and reviewed “operational aspects” at SOG camp on Thursday.

Officials told GNS that Kumar along with DIG south Kashmir and SSP Kulgam also visited Pariwan were an encounter gunfight took place in which an SOG personnel of J&K police and a JeM militant were killed while three army soldiers and two civilian were injured. “At SOG camp Nillow Kulgam, he interacted with officers and men from JKP, Army and CRPF and reviewed operational aspects,” they said.

Later on IGP and DIG visited Shopian and Pulwama where they “reviewed security and operational aspects,” they added. (GNS)

Today an extensive booster dose of Covid Vaccination drive has been started by Sopore Police to the Police Personnel posted in the Police District. The drive was carried out at DPL Sopore where Superintendent of Police Sopore Sudhanshu Verma-IPS received their first booster shot of Covid Vaccine.

SP Sopore advised all the officials to shed any inhibitions and avail this opportunity of administering the vaccine for immunising the frontline workers. He further added that vaccination drive will be a key factor in strengthening our defense against COVID-19 pandemic disease and will facilitate resumption of our daily life schedules.

He appreciated all Police officers/officials who are contributing the systematic efforts against COVID-19 pandemic disease and thanked the Health officials for their assistance in administering the booster dose of vaccine to Police officers/officials and also appealed the eligible population to get their booster dose at an earliest in order to beat this deadly virus. It is Pertinent to mention that Sopore Police along with civil administration are on forefront in enforcing the Covid Appropriate Behaviour in the whole Police District to restrain the further spread of it.

Srinagar, Jan 13 : Director Health Services Kashmir on Thursday has impressed upon all Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents and Block Medical Officers to get Covid-19 SOPs properly implemented in all health care institutions falling under their administrative control besides that no patient or attendant should be allowed to enter in hospital premises unless and until RAT testing is undertaken.

 

“In view of the recent surge of Covid-19 cases in the country & detection of some cases of Omicron in UT of J&K as well, all the Chief Medical Officers/Medical Superintendents/Block Medical Officers are hereby enjoined upon to get COVID-19 SOP’s/Guidelines properly implemented in all the Health Care Institutions falling under their Administrative Control.” Reads the circular issued by DHSK, a copy of which lies with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

 

“Besides, they will ensure that no patient/attendant is allowed to enter in the hospital premises unless & until RAT testing is undertaken & masks are put on face by them properly.” the order adds.
