Jammu and Kashmir reported eight covid-19 deaths, highest single-day toll of the present third wave, even as 5394 persons tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Monday.

2045 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu Division and 3349 from Kashmir, taking the overall tally to 402596, the officials told GNS.

Regarding the deaths, they said, four each were reported from Jammu division and Kashmir Valley respectively. So far 4613 people have died due to the virus—2253 in Jammu division and 2360 in Kashmir Valley.

On Saturday last, the J&K recorded its highest daily case count of 6568 since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

Giving district wise details, the officials told GNS that Srinagar reported 963 cases, Baramulla 514, Budgam 574, Pulwama 188, Kupwara 267, Anantnag 229, Bandipora 252, Ganderbal 51, Kulgam 276, Shopian 35, Jammu 1204 , Udhampur 234, Rajouri 40, Doda 187, Kathua 34, Samba 71, Kishtwar 40, Poonch 15, Ramban 121 and Reasi 99.

There has been surge in covid-19 cases in J&K since the start of the New Year. On January 1, J&K reported 169 cases, 165 cases on January 2, 178 on January 3, 199 on January 4, 418 on January 5, 349 on January 6, 542 on January 7, 655 on January 8, 687 on January 9, 706 on January 10, 1148 on January 11, 1695 on January 12, 1966 on January 13, 2456 on January 14, 3251 on January 15, 3499 on January 16, 2817 on January 17, 4651 on January 18 and 5818 on January 19 and 5992 on January 20, 5720 on January 21 and 6253 on January 22.

A number of these cases were confirmed at diagnostic laboratories of GMC Anantnag and District hospital Pulwama.

Besides, they said, 3643 Covid-19 patients recovered during the time—1732 from Jammu Division and 1911 from Kashmir. So far 353374 people have recovered, leaving active case tally at 44609 —13542 in Jammu and 31067 in Kashmir.

They said there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today. So far 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in J&K, the officials said.

They also informed that 33,147 ddoses of covid-19 vaccine were administered during the time in J&K. (GNS)

Jan in a statement to media said that India has witnessed drastic changes and strengthened democratic setup for the prosperity of it’s people.

He added the country’s democratic setup has provided equal opportunity to all its nationals without decriminating any creed and cast.

Quoting the freedom fighters who played an immense role for the strengthening of the country, Jan said the best tribute to these leaders is to abide by the constitution of India.

“Democracy is not merely a form of government. It is primarily a mode of associated living, of conjoint communicated experience. It is essentially an attitude of respect and reverence towards fellow men,” Jan quoted BR Ambedkar’s words about the Indian constitution.

Jan appealed the fellow citizens to follow the constitution in later and spirit. “I appeal the fellow citizens particularly goungester to abide by the laws mentioned in the constitution.

Full dress rehearsal for the forthcoming republic day celebration was held at DPL Kupwara in which ADC Kupwara Gh Ahmad Bhat accompanied by ASP Kupwara *Pradeep Singh unfurled the national flag, inspected the parade and took the salute at the march-past.

Speaking on the occasion, ADC Kupwara highlighted the importance of the Republic Day celebrations and deliberated on various development initiatives undertaken in the district for the progress and prosperity of public. He also threw light on the importance of Constitution of India which was adopted on 26th January 1950. ADC also elaborated about the efforts put in by district administration with regard to containment of Covid-19.
On the occasion, various contingents of CRPF, District Police , IRP, & Home Guards, participated in the march past parade.

Dy. SP PC Lolab Ajaz Ahmad Naikoo led the march past as parade commander on the occasion.

Braving cold and harsh climatic conditions, students from various schools and numerous cultural groups presented and performed scintillating cultural programmes on the occasion.

Among others, DySP Headquarters Kupwara DySP PC Kupwara, DySP DAR DPL and other Civil and Police officers were also present on the occasion.

Tehsildar Handwara *Shri Shahbaz Aakhoon* unfurled the National Flag and took salute to the march past. ASP Hamdwara *Shri Irshad Hussain-JKPS* and other officers of police and CAPF witnessed the event.

The chief guest in their speech briefed the role of freedom fighters of Nation, the developmental progress of nation and district as well, role of Police and health department in Covid pandamic.

The parade was commanded by Sub Inspector Amir Manzoor followed by the contigents of District Police, Armed, SSB, CRPF and Home guards.

At the end a colourful cultural programme was organized in which students of different schools of PD Hamdwara participated.

Today full dress Rehearsal for forthcoming “Republic Day-2022” was held at Madr-e-Meharbaan Stadium Qamariya Ganderbal, in which Chief Guest ADDC Ganderbal Peer Muzaffar-JKAS alongwith Additional Superintendent of Police Ganderbal Feroz Yehya-JKPS unfurled the National Flag and took the salute.

The March past was led by DySP DAR Ganderbal, Shri Muzaffar Jan-JKPS in which 08 contingents of different forces took part. Viz, District Police Ganderbal, Armed Police 14th Bn., CRPF 118th Bn., BSF 47th Bn., SSB, IR 8th Bn., PTS Manigam, Home Guard and SPOs. Apart from forces, 11 contigents of School children also participated with full enthusiasm.

Moreover, colourful Cultural programmes were presented by students and youth clubs from different institutions of District Ganderbal.

A full dress Rehearsal of the Republic day-2022 parade was held at Khushal Sports Stadium Sopore, with two days to go for the event. On the occassion ADC Sopore Parvaiz Sajad-JKAS along with SP Sopore Sudhanshu Verma-IPS, took Salute to the March past of the participating contingents. A good number of school children presented colourful cultural programmes including traditional folk songs.

Elaborate security arrangements were made by the District Police Sopore.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir range Vijay Kumar Monday said that all security arrangements have been put in place and that security forces will ensure peaceful conduct of Republic Day functions in Srinagar and other district headquarters of Valley.

“Police, army and CRPF have been conducted security drills including area domination, drone surveillance in Srinagar and district headquarters since past one week. All sensitive areas have been covered and we will ensure peaceful Republic Day in Srinagar and all district headquarters,” the IGP said as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), while speaking to media persons at SK Stadium on the side-lines of full-dress rehearsal parade ahead of January 26 (Republic Day).

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P K Pole said that all arrangements for the parade have been put in place. “Today, I have reviewed a full-dress rehearsal and every arrangement has been reviewed. As far as security arrangements, there seems to be no issue as security forces including police and CRPF have been busy with area domination since past one week,” he said, adding that all Republic Day functions will be held peacefully in Kashmir while following Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) in spirit—(KNO)

The migrants living in camps have been put to known suffering Perhapes in a deliberate attempt to harass the already uprooted community, as the Relief Organisation since handing over of the Engineering Wingh to Departments have been deshouldering responsiblities of upkeep of maintenance, renovation, repairs even of urgent requirement, ensuring of rectification of mechanical and Techanical troubles in power supply faults, regular hygenic water supply, and we camp Dewellers stand since then always have been let to suffer by not heeding to our problems also by the Concerned Departments. Senior People’s Democratic Party leader and former MLC from Poonch district of Jammu region, Yashpal Sharma died after suffering a massive cardiac arrest last night, family sources said on Sunday. He was 76.

Sharma remained a vocal voice in the PDP and was known among his followers as ‘Sher-e-Poonch (lion of Poonch).

“It is intensely saddening to learn about sudden demise of Yashpal Sharma ji Ex-MLC from Poonch district,” Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Asad said. “His departure is a tragedy; End of an epoch. His legacy will be remembered. I express my fervid condolences with his family and associates,” Asad, who belongs to Poonch district, added. (GNS)

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday said that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will preside over the main function on January 26 in Jammu while his Advisor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar will take a salute at Srinagar.

Moreover, District Development Council (DDC) chairpersons will preside over the main functions in their respective districts, according to a circular issued by the government. Block Development Council chairpersons and Presidents of Municipal bodies shall preside over and take salute in separate January 26 functions to be held at the concerned Sub-Divisional and Municipal headquarters, the circular, a copy of which lies with GNS.

The Lieutenant Governor will preside over the main Republic Day function to be held at MA Stadium Jammu here.

While the L-G’s Advisor R R Bhatnagar will preside over the function at Srinagar.

Also, incase of non-availability of any BDC & Municipal Chairperson, the Concerned SDMs, Tehsildars, and other senior officers have been authorized & designated to preside over the functions and take salutes respectively. (GNS)
