On this occasion, Commanding Officer 14 RR, Colonel Ajay Singh Rawat SM, CO 26 AR, Colonel Yogeshwar Singh, and all officers were present.

An official said the officers appreciated the contribution of Mohammad Zaid rendered by him in ensuring a peaceful and safe district. They said the efforts of him to ensure a drug and crime-free Bandipora will be a benchmark for all other officers. The Army officers expressed best wishes to the SSP Bandipora for future postings.

They said as a police head of Bandipora district, Zaid has been in the forefront combating terrorism, maintaining law and order in the town and generating intelligence for effect based operations. “His synergised efforts resulted in jointmanship and synchronised and coordinated conduct of conter-terrorism operations”.

Zaid is a 2001 batch JKPS officer who held the appointment of SSP Bandipora in March 2021. During his illustrious career spanning 23 years, he has tenanted various appointments in various districts of J&K.

As a token of appreciation and remembrance a Garhwali Soldier momento was presented to the outgoing SSP.

Bandipora, Jan 07 : The authorities have failed to complete the construction of the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) in Zurimanz area of Bandipora even after seven years.

Locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the construction agency has come up only with the concrete structure and the work on the hospital has remained on halt for years with the building remaining abandoned.

They said that the patients are facing a lot of difficulties in the village and its surrounding areas, as the village does not have proper facilities in the old building of the health centre.

Abdul Ahad a local said that the health centre is currently operating out of a rented room where all types of facilities are not available to patients.

Mushtaq Ahmad, another local, said that the government should take the necessary steps and should complete the pending work on a top-priority basis so that people will get relief.

An official said that the lack of funds forced them to stop the further construction work of the building. Once the funds will be released the work will be started,” he said—(KNO)

Sopore, Jan 07 : A public convenience in Sopore opened a few months ago has been closed in the face of water scarcity.

Residents told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) toilets have been locked for the last eight days as it lacks water facility.

The most affected are women and children as there is no toilet facility in the town.

Director ULB Kashmir, Mathoora Masoom told KNO that she is not aware about the issue and will look into it.

She assured the issue will be resolved at the earliest.

An official at Jal Shakti department Sopore told KNO that the washroom block is without a proper agreement for water connection. “We had provided them with a water facility on a temporary basis on their request for an inaugural ceremony,” the official said.

Municipal Committee President Masarat Kar denied washrooms are shut for lack of water facility for the last eight days saying they are shut for the last three days due to freezing of water pipes.

On the agreement issue, she said that the Jal Shakti department has not informed them about it—(KNO)

Srinagar, Jan 07 : The J&K administration has procured modern snow clearance machines worth Rs 40 crores out of the total budget of Rs 78 crores this year, while as the authorities on Saturday claimed that men and machinery have been put in alert mode in the wake of snowfall prediction.

Some of the machines with hydraulic power systems will be pressed for the first time during the road clearance.

Talking exclusively to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering Department (MED), Rasheed Ahmad Dar, said that a total budget of Rs 78 crores were allotted to procure the machines and vehicles for snow clearance in Jammu and Kashmir. “The machines and vehicles worth Rs 40 crores have reached us so far while the machines worth Rs 38 crores will arrive soon,” he said.

He said that at present there are three snow cutter machines available, which is meant for heavy snowfall and has been procured at the cost of Rs 18 crore. Besides, two trucks, 30-40 snow 4×4 trucks that are specially meant for Kashmir are presently available.

Dar further informed that a total of 252 machines are available with the department for snow clearance. “The number of machines available with us was 150 only till 2020, but the number has been increased to 252,” he said.

About the weather forecast by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Chief Engineer MED said that the man and machinery has already been geared up and a total of 15 control rooms including 10 district control rooms have been established.

He also said that there is possibility of snowfall across Kashmir including Srinagar and special control rooms have been established at some areas including Gurez, Gulmarg and other places.

The Chief Engineer further added that the road clearance over a total of 9000 kilometers falling under MED’s jurisdiction will be ensured very swiftly.

However, he appealed to people not to park their vehicles on the roadsides to ensure that the road clearance work is not hampered. “The people should cooperate in this regard. The people should not park their vehicles on the roadsides,” he said—(KNO)

Baramulla, Jan 07 : At least two families were rendered homeless after a massive fire gutted two residential houses at Jalal Sahib Mohalla area of Old town Baramulla in north Kashmir on Saturday.

Reports reaching the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that at least two residential houses were damaged after a massive fire engulfed a house in the Old town area of Baramulla this morning.

The fire reportedly broke out due to leakage in an LPG cylinder and quickly spread to other nearby residential house.

Police and firefighters reached the spot and doused the flames with the help of locals.

There was no loss of life in the incident, however, two houses were gutted completely and property worth lakhs of rupees got damaged, rendering the families homeless.

The affected house owners have been identified as Abdul Majeed Bhat and Abdul Qayoom Bhat—(KNO)

Sopore, Jan 07 : Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch Achabal in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has prohibited the entry of people with Pherans citing security reasons, even as branch head denied issuing any such order.

In a circular, which has gone viral on social media platforms, the bank branch has asked people with pherans not to enter the bank premises.

“Persons with Pheran are not allowed to enter inside the office/hall. For security reasons,” it reads.

Meanwhile, talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), branch head Anayat Ahmad said there was no such order from the bank unit.

“The poster that has gone viral seems to have been pasted by some miscreants and it has nothing to do with the bank circular,” he said.

He added for security reasons there is already a circular that no body is allowed to enter inside the hall—(KNO)

NAIDKHAI: Senior Leader and Incharge Sonawari Constituency Hilal Akbar Lone has expressed strong resentment over neglecting tehsil Ajas in recently restructuring of R&B Sub divisions by LG Administration on Saturday.

Hilal Akbar Lone said that “I feel pained when he saw there is no name of R&B Sub division for Ajas tehsil in recently restructuring of R&B Sub division by LG administration which is sheer injustice to this area”,.

He urged LG administration to reconsider the decision and approve R&B Sub division to Ajas as well which is there geniune and long pending demand.

He said that it will hit the developmental works if this area is being denied the status of R&V sub division .

He futher demanded that Ajas tehsil be given CD Block ,

Sub division Jal Shakti,Sub-Divison PDD ,ITI college and seperate Education Zone for Ajas.

Hilal ,however welcomed the move of giving R&B sub division status to Hajin which they are deserving since long.

It’s pertinent to mention that Government on Friday ordered restructuring of Public Works (R&B) Department by way of re-organisation of cadre and rationalization of jurisdiction of its subordinate and field offices by making them co-terminus with territorial limits of divisions, districts and blocks of the Jammu and Kashmir

Baramulla, Jan 07 : A massive fire broke out in a residential house at Jalal Sahib area of Old Town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a massive fire broke out in a two-storey residential house at old Town Baramulla following which fire tenders rushed to the spot.

Efforts are on to house the flames and prevent the fire from spreading, as the area is congested, he said—(KNO)
