Jammu, Jan 17 : A major controversy has erupted over the participation of former minister Lal Singh in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra with a lawyer, who was at the forefront of a campaign to seek justice for eight-year-old Kathua child who was gang-raped and murdered in 2018, resigning from the Congress on Tuesday over allowing Singh to participate in the Yatra, which will enter Jammu & Kashmir this week.

In a series of tweets, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Advocate Deepika Pushkar Nath announced her resignation from the party, saying Lal Singh defended the rapists of the girl and divided the entire Jammu & Kashmir to protect the rapists.

“In view of Ch.Lal Singh’s proposal of joining @bharatjodo & @INCJammuKashmir allowing the same, I am left with no other option but to resign from @INCIndia .Lal Singh was responsible in sabotaging the Kathua rape case in 2018 by brazenly defending rapists,” Deepika tweeted.

Deepika, who was also spokesperson of J&K unit of Congress, said Lal Singh divided the entire region of Jammu & Kashmir to protect the rapists and Bharat Jodo Yatra is ideologically opposite to actions of the former minister.

“Lal Singh divided the entire region of Jammu & Kashmir to protect the rapists and @bharatjodo is ideologically opposite. On ideological grounds, I cannot share the party platform with such a person,” she said.

Lal Singh along with Chandra Prakash Ganga were forced to resign from Mehbooba Mufti-led council of ministers on April 13, 2018 over their participation in a rally in support of Kathua rapists.

After his ouster from the cabinet, Singh had led a massive campaign to seek CBI probe in Kathua rape and murder case, saying this was a conspiracy to defame entire Dogra community.

J&K police had then registered an FIR against brother of Lal Singh for using abusive language against then Chief Minster Mehbooba Mufti during a rally in Kathua

In January 2018, an eight-year-old nomadic Muslim girl in Rasana village of Kathua was kidnapped and raped in captivity after having been kept sedated for four days before she was bludgeoned to death.

The resignation of Deepika Singh would put Congress in tightspot and it would be interesting to watch whether the party would allow Singh to join Yatra—(KNO)

Srinagar, Jan 16 : A sudden surge in heart attacks in Kashmir has worried people with a dozen cases reported in the last 48 hours.

Doctors said that prevailing freezing temperature constricts blood vessels and increases blood pressure as blood tends to be thicker during extreme cold, increasing chances of heart attack or stroke.

Dr Irfan, a cardiologist from Government Medical College Srinagar told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that heart attack cases in Kashmir have increased in the last four years with about 10-20 heart attack cases being brought to SMHS Hospital alone on a daily basis.

He suggested precautionary measures including keeping blood pressure and diabetes in control and cholesterol levels. Besides, people should leave sedentary life, quit smoking and do regular physical exercises to avoid risk of heart attack, Dr Irfan added.

“People must keep themselves warm, avoid going out in the chilly cold for a walk. They should eat a healthy diet, mainly fruits and vegetables, to keep themselves hydrated,” he said.

He said that the first hour of a heart attack is called the golden hour and patients who have cardiac emergencies need thrombosis and first aid after which they can be shifted to tertiary care hospital.

“Whenever we receive a call, we analyse the ECG and ensure that the right treatment is given to a patient at the right time at their doorstep. When a cardiac emergency case gets first medical contact in the area, the doctor uploads ECG in WhatsApp group of Save heart initiative, where a cardiologist evaluates the ECG following which he guides the official how to handle the patient,” the doctor said.

Another cardiologist said the common symptoms for heart attack include chest pain, tightness, squeezing/ache discomfort that spreads to the shoulder, arm, back, neck, jaw, teeth or sometimes the upper belly. “Cold sweat, fatigue, heartburn or indigestion, light-headedness or sudden dizziness, nausea and shortness of breath are some of the common symptoms,” he said—(KNO)
