Waheed Para who is currently under UAPA detention over various allegations was found unconscious in jail on Saturday. While his jail inmates alarmed about his unconsciousness, the jail authorities took him to the Police Hospital for check up.

It was said that doctors while checking Waheed had recommended further treatment, Echo scan and follow-up check up in Super Speciality.

The family of Waheed said that, “Waheed’s health is worsening day in and day out and we are in shock to hear that he was found unconscious in a barrack by fellow detainees.”

The family of Waheed are appealing Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for facilitating the medical check up of Waheed.

They further added, “doctors at Police Hospital had recommended Echo scan and specialist check up of Waheed. However, from two days we are waiting that he will be taken to hospital but he hasn’t been taken yet.” His family added.

Official sources told Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that Waheed was taken to hospital after his Blood pressure (BP) suddenly went down. “After giving medical aid Parra was discharged from hospital and was shifted back to central Srinagar,” they said.

Pertinent to mention that Para was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 25, 2020, just a day after he announced his candidacy for the District Development Council elections and filed nomination papers.

In January 2021, he was granted bail by the NIA court. The special judge at the court held that “offences particularly falling under Unlawful Activities Act (UAPA) are not prima facie made out against the accused”.

The judge had said that none of the chargesheets presented before the court contained “reference of the present applicant” or referred to him as “suspected accused”.

While Waheed was stepping out of the jail, he was arrested by Jammu Kashmir Police Wing, CIK, on the same charges. His bail application was rejected twice and is jailed in Srinagar Central Jail where his condition has deteriorated as per family. (KDC)

While welcoming the funds for conservation of Dal Lake, the Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Club has urged the GoI to ensure the earmarked funds are utilised properly and appropriately.

In a statement, Chairman JKHC Mushtaq Chaya said Rs 35581 crore for Jammu and Kashmir in the Union budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Parliament is welcome step “but more needs to be done to ensure JK’s economic growth”.

He said like a special grant of Rs 273 crore for rehabilitation of Dal—Nageen lake, the GoI should have proposed similar package for the rehabilitation of travel and hospitality sector which is one of the mainstays of economy in the Union Territory.

Chaya said Kashmir economy has always been at the receiving end due to various known reasons which should be compensated by substantial economic package from the centre government.

“We were expecting generous funding from Government of India to give boost to JK’s economic sectors which have been badly hit for past many years. Kashmiri youth are enterprising but don’t have resources in this landlocked place. The capital infusion will give them a major boost to reboot their ventures which suffered losses during the continuous lockdowns,” he said.

Chaya urged LG administration to impress upon the finance ministry for special economic package to Jammu and Kashmir.

Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) has urged government of India to extend special financial assistance to Jammu and Kashhmir in its Union Budget following the back to back losses it suffered August 2019.

In a statement, CCIK President Tariq Rashid Ghani said after reducing J&K to union territory, the Union Government had promised fast paced economic development in the region which has noted happened due to repeated lockdowns since Abrogation of Article 370.

“We were badly hit by the lockdown imposed after Article 370 abrogation. Then the Covid struck the world which has not helped the business community to rebuild. The government needs to announce unprecedented financial package to Jammu and Kashmir to generate the economic growth,” said Ghani.
He said the agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts, tourism, traders, small business units and new atart ups need fresh capital infusion to catapult the growth of the Union Territory.

“Government of India has to keep Jammu and Kashmir in special category since no economic growth took place since Aug 2019. Unless there is huge capital infusion to various economic sectors, the economic activities may not jump start to required levels,” said CCIK President.
CCIK said government needs to announce tax holiday for J&K, waive off interest accumulated since Aug 2019, interest subvention scheme, fresh capital on low rate of interest, GST holiday, moratorium of two years on fresh loans, reservation in tenders at all India level to local entrepreneurs.
