Jammu and Kashmir reported 197 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest single-day count in 46 days, even as one person succumbed to the virus, the first death reported after four days, officials said on Friday.

They said 118 of the fresh cases were from Jammu Division and 79 from Kashmir Division, taking the overall tally to 451989.

Giving district wise details, the officials told GNS, Srinagar reported 30 cases, Baramulla 20, Budgam 12, Pulwama 0, Kupwara 5, Anantnag 2, Bandipora 6, Ganderbal 1, Kulgam 3, Shopian 0, Jammu 41, Udhampur 1, Rajouri 1, Doda 42, Kathua 10, Samba 1, Kishtwar 1, Poonch 4, Ramban 12 and Reasi 5.

A few of these cases were confirmed at GMC Anantnag and include female (70) from NA, male (45) from Sagam Kokernag and male (63) from Gawas Kapran.

There was no death either from Jammu or Kashmir in the last 24 hours, they said. So far 4745 persons have succumbed to the virus—2323 in Jammu and 2422 in Kashmir.

Besides, they said, 577 Covid-19 patients—269 from Jammu and 308 from Valley— recovered during the time. So far 444646 people have recovered, leaving the active case tally at 2597— 1307 in Jammu and 1290 in Kashmir.

They said there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today. So far 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in J&K, the officials said. They also informed that 32341 doses of covid-19 vaccine were administered during the time in J&K. (GNS)

Four persons two of them seriously were injured after there was a head-on collision between a truck and an Eco-Sports vehicle in the Rajouri region of Jammu and Kashmir.

The accident occurred during evening hours at Chatyari Chingus highway of Rajouri, a police official said.

He said four persons injured in the accident have been shifted to GMC associated hospital in Rajouri. “The Eco-Sports vehicle was completely damaged in the collision,” the official added.

He identified the injured as Muhammad Ishtiyaq (35), a resident of Hardi Madot area of Surankote Poonch, Muhammad Umar Fazal (21), Ghons Ali Shah (24), and Mudasir Hussain (27), all residents of Mohda Bachi area of Surankote Poonch. (KNT)

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested its former Superintendent of Police (SP) and IPS officer Arvind Digvijay Negi for allegedly leaking secret documents to an over ground worker of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group, its official spokesperson said here.

The spokesperson said that Negi, a police officer who was promoted to the IPS batch of 2011, was arrested in connection with a case registered by the NIA on November 6 last year.

The case pertains to the spread of network of over ground workers (OGWs) of the banned Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) for providing support in planning and execution of terrorist activities in India.

The NIA had earlier arrested six people in the case.

“During investigation, the role of A D Negi, IPS, SP posted at Shimla (since repatriated from NIA) was verified and his houses were searched. It was also found that official secret documents of the NIA were leaked by A D Negi to another accused person who is an OGW of LeT in the case,” the spokesperson said. PTI

In order to take the stock of the functioning of IRP-4th Bn., welfare of its officers & jawans and ongoing constructional work of Border Battalion Headquarters, the Additional Director General of Police Armed Jammu and Kashmir Syed Javed Mujtaba Gillani-IPS paid a visit to APC Wayen Kupwara yesterday. He was accompanied by DIG Police NKR and Incharge DIG IRP Range Kashmir Udhay Bhasker Billa-IPS, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shri Imam Din-JKAS, Yougal Manhas-JKPS Senior Superintendent of Police Kupwara and Liaqat Ali Choudhary-JKPS Senior Superintendent of Police APCR Kashmir.

During the visit, the ADGP conducted the inspection of the Administrative block of the unit and pinned ranks to the newly promoted officials in an impressive pipping ceremony. The ADGP addressed a darbar of officers and jawans of IRP-4th Battalion on the occasion. Earlier the Commandant IRP-4th Bn. Abrar Chowdhary-JKPS SSP welcomed the ADGP and other officers and gave a detailed presentation of the responsibilities and performance of the unit. He also highlighted the various issues confronted by the unit. During darbar, Jawans and officers put forth their respective grievances before the ADGP. The ADGP listened to their grievances in detail and also issued on the spot instructions with regard to various issues.

While addressing durbar the ADGP appreciated the commendable role played by the jawans and officers of IRP-4th Bn. while handling various sensitive assignments including parliament elections, Panchayat elections, Amarnath Ji Yatra and other law and other related assignments. He further advised the jawans and officers for maintaining discipline, and taking care of personal as well as camp security besides strictly adopting the COVID appropriate behaviour. He emphasised the need to upkeep and maintain the pride of uniform.

On the occasion, the ADGP also inspected the ongoing construction work of the Headquarters for newly raised Border Battalion and interacted with the Engineers of Police Construction Division on the constructional issues of the building. During the visit the ADGP also paid a visit to the site/ land identified for construction of Unit Hqrs. in Sopore for the newly raised Women Battalion.
The darbar concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Abrar Chowdhary-JKPS SSP Commandant of the unit.

A burglary attempt was made at the Jammu and Kashmir Branch Chittergull in Anantnag district on Thursday night, said a police official.

Reports reaching GNS said that Employees of J&K branch Chittergull on reaching the branch for daily duties spotted that the rear wall of the building had been broken.

Meanwhile police officials on reaching the spot have started the investigation into the matter.

“It was an attempt to loot the branch, but burglaries have failed in their attempt, a case has been registered and investigations are underway”, police official added.(GNS)

Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) has hailed the efforts of Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom in getting the GI tags to most of the Kashmir handicraft products.

In a statement, CCIK President Tariq Rashid Ghani said the GI tags to the indigenous Hlhandicrafts products will save Kashmir’s unique art and craft and promote artisans.

Ghani appreciated the efforts of Director Handicrafts and Handloom Mahmood Shah for taking painstaking efforts in ensuring the age old craft gets world recognition and is saved from fictious products.

CCIK said many fraudulent traders were selling and passing imported carpets and shawls as hand knotted Kashmiri products bringing bad image to the Kashmir’s craft and artisans.

“The GI tags to carpets and other handicraft products is a big shot for the Kashmiri artisans and to Kashmir. The Handicraft is one of the mainstays of economy fetching huge foreign exhange to Kashmir and contributing to employment generation,” he said.

Ghani assured full support to Handicraft department in promoting genuine Kashmir Handicraft.

Police on Thrusday claimed to have recovered huge explosive material in Zandfaran area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A senior police officer told GNS that a joint team of Police, army, SSB and CRPF during searches in Zandfaran area recovered huge explosive material.

The police officer while giving details said that 11 hand Grenades 11 UBGL, a crude grenade and other explosive material was recovered.

Anti Corruption Bureau received a complaint, wherein the complainant had alleged that Habibullah Mir, Naib Tehsildar Chuker, Tehsil Kunzer, District Baramulla was demanding bribe of ₹30,000 from complainant for granting permission for removing walnut tree.

2. The complainant approached Habibullah Mir, Naib Tehsildar for the removal of the walnut tree with his application moved through Tehsildar Kunzer. The tree as per the complainant was very old. It was about to fall anytime. There was apprehensions of tree causing damage to the house or to any family member. He approached authorities for seeking permission for cutting of tree. The Naib Tehsildar concerned after visiting the spot asked for a bribe of ₹30,000 for granting permission. The amount was later settled at ₹20,000. Out of the agreed amount the complainant deposited ₹10000 in the bank account of the Naib Tehsildar on the directions of accused.

3. Immediately after receipt of the complaint a pre-verification was conducted by ACB into the matter. Based on pre-verification, Prima facie offences u/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) were made out against the alleged accused person Habibullah Mir Naib Tehsildar Kunzer. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 07/2022 was registered in Police Station ACB Baramulla u/s 7 of the PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) against accused public servant & investigations started.

During the course of investigations said accused public servant was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of ₹5000 from complainant who had already taken ₹10,000 from him earlier through Bank accounts. The accused was immediately arrested on spot and his house was also searched during the search many incriminating documents were obtained by the searching team.

5. Further investigations in the case are going on.

In order to build good Police-Public relations and to promote sports among youth, Police under the aegis of Police Civic Action Programme distributed cricket equipment among the youth in Budgam.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police CKR Srinagar Shri Sujit Kumar-IPS accompanied by SSP Budgam Shri Tahir Saleem-JKPS distributed sports equipment to a local sports club ‘Humhama Youth Welfare Association’ at Humhama Budgam. The sports equipment includes 02 dug-outs, 02 cricket practice nets, 01 cricket mat, 10 fencing nets, 30 chairs and 2 tables.

While interacting with the youth, the DIG CKR Srinagar said that everyone should take up sports as it helps to boost self-confidence, concentration, physical and mental health. He also said that youth should make optimum use of sports and channelize their energy in the right direction through various sports activities.

Community members especially the participants have shown extraordinary enthusiasm and applauded the Police for arranging and providing such facilities in order to boost their morale.

Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Rayees Mohammad Bhat in presence of SDPO Pattan, Nawaz Khanday today felicitated Tabeena Fayaz, a 10th class topper from Palhallan  who has secured  500/500 marks in a recent result that was declared by Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education.

SSP Baramulla while interacting with the topper congratulated her for brilliant performance in her studies.  He also said that the topper would inspire other students to excel in their studies and academics.

On the occasion, SSP Baramulla and SDPO Pattan also highlighted the importance of teachers and parents and appreciated the efforts of both in this regard.
